Regulation of Private Wells

The Bucks County Department of Health administers regulations and construction standards for all types of wells. Only wells specifically regulated by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental protection are excluded, i.e., wells with a minimum of 15 service connections and 25 year round users. 

Permits

Individuals installing a new well or modifying an existing well must first obtain a permit from the County Department of Health.The following types of wells will require a permit:

  • Agricultural wells
  • Geo-Thermal wells
  • Individual residential wells
  • Monitoring wells

As well as commercial and community wells that are not regulated by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection.
